EMERGENCY INTERIM COMMUTER SERVICE
For the South Shore Community of Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, NY - June 18, 2001: Atlantic Express is working with New York City DOT to help fill some of the void that will result from Academy's scheduled pull out from Staten Island on Friday, June 22.
Beginning Monday, June 25, 2001, Atlantic Express will provide emergency temporary commuter service to the South Shore community (Route AE4 and Route AE5). Schedules and bus stop information for these routes can be accessed by clicking on the link in the bottom of this page. One-Way Fare is $4.00, Cash Only.
With the expected increase in ridership, Atlantic Express is acquiring nineteen new buses to increase our capacity and the first delivery is expected on Friday, June 22. We will be adding more buses to our commuter line as we receive delivery of the buses from the manufacturer.
No Academy bus tickets will be accepted on our buses at this time. Until a decision is reached, we understand that commuters can return their tickets for reimbursement to: Academy Express, 440 Florida Grove Road, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, Attn: Jean Miller.
Coming in mid summer we will be making the transition to our new street routes, AE1: Luten-Hylan-Seguine-Foster-Woodrow and AE2: Hylan-Arden-Woodrow-Huguenot runs. The buses on these routes (AE1 & AE2) will feature the MetroCard style fare boxes and will cost commuters $3.00 for a one-way trip. Atlantic Express commuter tickets purchased at the Park-and-Ride will not be accepted on these routes. AE Tickets can only be used for travel on the Atlantic Express Park-and-Ride route.
Please continue to monitor this website for any updates. We will post information as soon as they become available. At this time, we can only provide information relating to the Atlantic Express Emergency Interim Commuter routes AE4 and AE5.
